London Bridge Hospital Expansion, London SE1

The bright finishes palette and seamless integration of specialist services help to create an atmosphere of calm efficiency for the intensive care and surgical ward. The clinical team are thrilled with the new unit as the layout of the bedrooms and nurse base has really improved the way they are able to care for patients.

The ward expansion was achieved through an extension into the atrium of the hospital’s main building. This required submission of a Planning and Listed Building Consent application in addition to Landlord’s Approval. Post completion of the first phase, Sonnemann Toon Architects were appointed to integrate a new MRI scanner into the scheme.

New rooms, including those for intensive care - offer a glimpse into the atrium space whilst the mirrored glazing prevents overlooking from outside.

The hospital’s interior branding has been adopted for the ward bedrooms on the upper floors and the common areas in the MRI suite.
