The Focus Clinic, London
The Focus Clinic is a private outpatient facility specialising in laser eyesight correction. It occupies interconnected lower ground floors of 20-22 Wimpole Street. The new ophthalmology ambulatory surgical centre would primarily treat cataract, widening the range of services. The initial brief presented by the client was to create an HTM-03 compliant operating theatre but heritage restrictions and a desire to free up as much space as possible for patient areas resulted in amended technical requirements replacing the theatre within a treatment room equipped with ‘SurgiCube’ - the air handling unit providing localised sterile air. In the entrance hall the client commissioned us to design a mural which depicted the history of ophthalmology. As the journey through interior spaces progresses, the ambience becomes increasingly modern with the SurgiCube treatment room as the destination.
